My family and I spent the day pulling our camper towards Santa Rosa Beach, Florida, and we are loving Topsail Hill Preserve State Park! Each campsite is equipped with full hook-up campsites, a concrete parking pad, and the ambiance is simply fantastic. I wish that the sites were slightly larger, but other than that, I can’t complain.
Today we were planning on spending the day on the beach, but after a few minutes decided to change our plans. (It was chilly!) We headed down the coast a piece to Fort Walton Beach and the Emerald Coast Science Center.
At first glance, there didn’t seem to be much to this place, but my kids had an amazing afternoon learning about science concepts in a hands-on manner. We were especially excited to see two budgies, two cockatoos, and an amazon parrot almost immediately once entering the center. We had left our two conures Mango and Kiwi back at the travel trailer and my kids love birds, so they were more than happy to interact with these guys.
From there, they drove a remote-controlled robot and participated in several super-fun centers. They enjoyed experimenting with robotics, force, and other laws of motion. They also learned about the natural ecosystem surrounding the area.
In all, we had a good day. This wasn’t my favorite children’s museum that I’ve ever been to, but it was definitely something enjoyable to do for an hour or two when it was too cold to play outdoors. We left with a new lighthouse bingo game, which we will hopefully be playing tonight! Tomorrow we are thinking about touring Gulfarium in Fort Walton Beach or taking a dolphin cruise.
