Modest Monday – Stripes + 22 Week Pregnancy Update

Whew, it’s been one of those weeks!  Yesterday we received a knock on the door from a few policemen who said they received hang-up calls from our home.  The thing is that they said it would have come from a landline, and we don’t have a landline!  They left after shrugging and saying that sometimes moisture in the lines causes this, and now I’m afraid that it will happen again, ha!  Our upstairs air conditioning unit also has quit on us.  So boo to that.  But really, these things are very minor problems, and I’m thankful for God’s goodness.

Today I wore a very comfortable knit top from Ross, and paired it with a thrifted navy skirt.

As you can tell, I have a pattern of buying tops at Ross and jewelry at Cato!  Both stores have excellent prices for these particular items.  I’m wearing comfy workout shorts underneath my skirt to prevent chafing.  I slept with my hair in a bun (totally unintentionally) which put a slight wave in my hair.

Now for a small pregnancy update!  Earlier in the week I went to my doctor for a standard OB appointment.  Everything is still looking great.  I haven’t gained any weight this month…which is actually a good thing since it’s my habit to gain a lot during my first trimester.  I just feel so sick if I don’t eat all of the time, ha!  I feel Miss Mabrey moving all of the time now, but her kicks are most noticeable when I’m laying down.

My midwife told me that I should eat a breakfast of eggs, cheese, and water two hours before I take my glucose test this time.  I’ve been asked to take the three hour test during two of my prior pregnancies now (which is no fun), so I’m taking her advice to heart.  During my last pregnancy, I had a #1 from Chick-fil-A and a Diet Coke on my way to be glucose tested.  Oops.  That is coming up next month.

I have one fabulous long denim maternity skirt, but I’m on the lookout for a nice knee-length one.  I’m short, so everything I’ve found so far hasn’t quite worked…they are either too short or too long.  Thrift stores are usually my best bet when I’m on the lookout for these kinds of items.

Well that’s odd… Doctors tell you to load up on carbs for three days before having your glucose test. Maybe your midwife doesn’t know this?

From my experience this would increase the chance of failing the first screen because I would already have lots of sugars in my system. (Carbs turn into sugar.) If my body doesn’t have much sugar in it at the time of the screening, then I should do better. This is the for the initial screen, not for the fasting three-hour-test. I would imagine for that it would be good if your body was used to processing large amounts of sugar before you fast so it would process the test sugar quickly. I basically plan on fasting from carbs the morning of my screening, almost like I would if I was taking the actual three hour test. I hope this makes sense, ha! I have worked with the same midwife/doctor group for 17 years. 🙂

  3. Looking lovely! Best wishes for your glucose test!

You look amazing! I, on the other hand, feel like a whale at 23 weeks (I will have to email you a photo). I have had GD my last 2 pregnancies and I think I will have it this time too (despite eating a very low carb diet-THM style, in ways) since I have been testing with leftover strips from my last pregnancy. I see my numbers going up (anything potato is a big no-no even though that is what I craved early on in this pregnancy). Yes, a meal of no carbs and all protein will be good before the 1 hour test. I plan on doing the same, but I’m still doubtful I can pass as I can’t have any meals right now that are over 30 carbs (and I believe the glucose test has 50 grams of sugar….I’m so scared that I’m going to feel so sick after taking it).

Thanks Bridget! I will be praying for you, and I’m so sorry for your struggles with GD!

  5. You look beautiful! I have a really hard time finding skirts as well, especially being pregnant. I hope your glucose test goes well. I went for mine last week and just as that timer went off… so did the fire alarm! It took 1/2 an hour to evacuate and then come back inside so I’m still waiting to hear if I have to do it again. I usually eat some cinnamon oatmeal before hand- just enough not to feel sick but to counter some of that sugar high from the drink.
