Foreign Languages for Kids by Kids Spanish Program Starter Set 1 Review (TOS Crew Review)

Over the past year my high schoolers have been studying Spanish, and so my younger daughter was beyond thrilled to begin learning the language herself.  We have discovered an awesome new-to-us program which includes the Starter Set 1 from Foreign Languages for Kids by Kids to learn Spanish.

Beginner Spanish Foreign Languages for Kids by Kids Review
Foreign Languages for Kids by Kids is a great program which teaches language in a interactive way.   It is an award winning curriculum, and children learn the language by watching other children speaking it on the DVD.   We were super excited when the program was delivered by the mail carrier, and we opened the box in anticipation.  It did not disappoint, and included a 20-week curriculum guide, DVD, three workbooks, flash cards, and a sticker set.  The Spanish Starter Set 1 is based on an 8-part video series which starts at 8:00 a.m. and ends at 8:00 p.m.  The day is anything but ordinary, and includes surprises, humor, and more, to keep the students engaged.  From experience, I know that when something causes my daughter Morgan to laugh, she is more likely to remember it.  I’m sure most mommas probably know what I mean!

My sixteen-year-old, who really enjoys Spanish, asked if she could be the main facilitator of the program with Morgan, who is ten.  Being nine months pregnant, I said sure, and I really enjoyed watching the girls interacting with each other while learning Spanish.  Morgan overall really enjoyed watching the DVD, completing the workbooks, and using the flash cards.  One day she spent the afternoon labeling items around the house using the provided cards in Spanish.  It was really a lot of fun for her.

The program comes with a Guide for Teachers and Parents, which is valuable resource.  A program overview, program goals, information about how to get started, and lesson overviews are included.   Some very good tips are covered here, such as suggesting to not allow children to watch ahead, and to make sure your child realizes that they are not expected to understand everything in the DVD.  A general understanding of what is being said and occurring is all that is needed, and this in of itself will help your children learn the language.

Morgan has really begun to pick up Spanish, which is excellent!  She would complete several lessons each week with Melani, and near the end of this review she would specifically ask for her Spanish lesson.  This is huge since in general, she tries her best to hurry quickly through her school work.  This did not hold true for Spanish.

The Starter Set 1 from Foreign Languages for Kids by Kids is now available for $140.25, and for a limited time it includes their card game extension, Go Squish!  I really think this program was a great introduction to Spanish for my ten-year-old, but it would definitely work with younger students as well.
