Momma, You are Enough

myae

I’m sitting on my bed, my arms awkwardly stretched over a sleeping baby as I type.  Her breathing is soft and steady, she is perfectly content, and yet I can’t help but wonder if I’m doing this whole “mom” thing right.  I mean, she is my eighth child, I should have this down by now.

But yet, I still wonder.  As much as I would like to think that I have everything under control, I know deep inside that I really don’t.  We’ve recently had to cut back on extracurricular activities due to time constraints, my older kids help within the household a lot, and I can’t help but feel guilty about not reading to my younger brood as much as I did to their older siblings.

Anxiety begins to creep in.  Are my children missing out because of me?  I’m sure that many other women could do a better job than I.

But then…I remember the sweet promises found in God’s Word.  I know that out of all the women in the universe, He chose me to be their mother.  That is mind blowing to think about.  God looked down and saw little ol’ me, and thought that I should be a mom.

The Lord uses the weak to fulfill His purposes many times.  That certainly is what He has done when He chose me to parent my kids.  Parenting is a huge responsibility!  And yet He uses my weaknesses to help build my children into who He has ordained them to be.

Mommas, we aren’t meant to be perfect.  By nature, we can’t be!  But if we rely on the Lord during our mothering journey, He will be faithful.  He will use us and shape us as a potter shapes a lump of clay.  We will sometimes be put through the fire as the Potter shapes and molds us.  But in the end, we will become the vessels that He has intended us to be.

We need to recognize that we are enough if we rely on Christ.  God can and will fill in our cracks to serve Him and our families.  He is a good, good Father.  When we feel like we aren’t enough, He makes us enough.

I pray that you will be encouraged today in your calling!  It is a great one.

  1. Thank you for speaking my heart. So many times I feel “not enough”. It keeps me humble and on my knees. The Lord is faithful. He will fill in the gaps. God bless you and your family.

  2. Yes ~ So thankful for God’s grace that covers me, and also meets my children’s needs, even when I can’t or don’t know how. May we both be the moms he would have us be today!

  3. Thank you for the encouraging thoughts. Remembering that God sent you those little people on loan helps you parent differently; it simultaneously gives you confidence and humbles you!

  4. Beautiful words, mothering is so hard. I’m so thankful for what God has taught me. I’ve been reading several books lately that have taken me down to my knees, praying for mercy over my mistakes and begging for grace as we try to move out of those mistakes into His healing Hands. We are enough, because He is enough. Thanks for sharing!
