Modest Monday at the Chapel of Ease + 25 Week Pregnancy Update with Baby #8

We just arrived home from almost a week of camping at Hunting Island State Park near Beaufort, SC and it was wonderful!   As a homeschooling mom, I try to make even our beach trips somewhat educational.  Throughout the week we visited the State Park’s nature center, the Hunting Island lighthouse, the Santa Elena History Center, Fort Fremont, the Chapel of Ease, the Penn Center, Cypress Wetlands, the Coastal Discovery Museum (on HHI), The Sandbox Children’s Museum (on HHI), and even The Kazoo Factory where we learned about the history of kazoos and made our own!  We also fit in tons of beach time.

If you like to camp I highly recommend Hunting Island, especially if you have small children.  The beach is ginormous with tons of tidal pools to explore during low tide, and I wasn’t a nervous wreck about the kids getting too close to the ocean.  Hunting Island is close to one of the largest shark breeding grounds in the world, and we found several shark teeth along with shells!

We stopped by the Chapel of Ease right after exploring Fort Fremont on a rainy afternoon after eating at a seafood restaurant.  The clouds parted, and we were able to explore the ruins of the church which was built in 1740 out of tabby.

What I Wore:

Maxi Dress – Ross

Black Cardigan – Cato

I was super uncomfortable on the first half of our trip since the bed in our travel trailer isn’t very soft, but after buying a few additional pillows I slept much better.   I did my best to keep up with my family, but sometimes I sat things out.  My mother-in-law traveled with us, and so her help was much appreciated.  Other than the bed complaint, all is going well and I’m nearing the 26 week mark.

  1. I am so impressed with your vacation!! That is one of my biggest weaknesses (planning trips, that is), and I’m trying to improve. You are amazing – and all while pregnant, too!

Glad to hear all is going well!

Thanks Diana, most of our stops were free and close together. 🙂 I really enjoy “field trips” with the family.

  2. I love that you admitted you like to make your vacations educational. I did the same thing when my children were little!
    Blessings, Leigh

  3. That sounds like a lot of fun! Our family enjoys camping. I’ve done it pregnant, and it’s definitely not easy.

We had a really good time. It wasn’t always easy, and I’m thankful to have an awesome family who doesn’t mind my slowness. 🙂
